Grove had been looking at the land it owns between Ritchie Street and Ivan Street and secured funding from Belfast City Council and the Alpha Programme to create a community garden on both the open paved area and on the grassed area between the terraces. Groundwork NI was the consultant for the scheme. The funding has also provided a mural along the railway which has had input from local residents.
Construction work ran from April to July 2016 and vegetables, fruit and flowers were immediately planted. Whilst there is plenty to learn, cabbage, kale, potatoes, parsley, beans and strawberries were among the plants grown.
