Grove had been looking at the land it owns between Ritchie Street and Ivan Street and secured funding from Belfast City Council and the Alpha Programme to create a community garden on both an open paved area and on a grassed area between the terraces. Groundwork NI was the consultant for the scheme.
The funding also provided a mural along the railway wall which had input from local residents. Construction work ran from April to July 2016 and vegetables, fruit and flowers were immediately planted.
The Garden was further developed in 2017. As the photos show, the vegetables and flowers in Community Garden look well and are the reward for plenty of hard work.
There is room for a lot more local people to become involved, so if you are interested please contact us at Grove Housing Association.
